Camera Obscura-French Navy
Oh how I await that first punch of the drum, then the kick of Tracyanne’s sugary sweet voice tinged with a sense of melancholoy, like much of their music, always, cheerful and upbeat, indiepop bliss, but usually an underlying longing and tragic romanticism that makes every song mean something else. But this song, this particular love affair depicted, spending a week in a dusty library, waiting for some words to jump at me, is particularly perfect.
This is the song, of all songs, that makes me desperately want to be wearing a sailor dress, and dancing under the moon by the silvery lake with my sailor mate, who makes me go ooooh, with the thing that you do. It’s the violin spinning it to new heights, its catchy structure and lyrics that fit. It’s the beautiful heartbreaking fairy tale it calls to mind. I wanted to control it, but love I couldn’t hold it.
